Ralph qualified from the Glasgow University Veterinary School in 1985. After a short period in mixed animal practice he took up an orthopaedic residency at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh and then at the Royal Veterinary College, London. In 1991 he entered private orthopaedic referral practice and established Anderson Abercromby Veterinary Referrals in 2005 with Angus Anderson.
Ralph has contributed several chapters to standard orthopaedic textbooks and has lectured on orthopaedic topics extensively in the UK and abroad. Early in his career he was awarded a bursary by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to study arthroscopy abroad. He has been an examiner in orthopaedics for the RCVS, has served on the Small Animal Surgery Board and Working Parties and is recognised as an Advanced Practitioner. He is interested in all aspects of orthopaedics particularly joint replacement and fracture management.
