Miranda Aiken
Veterinary Surgeon
MA VetMB DSAS(Orth) MRCVS RCVS Recognised Specialist in small animal surgeryMiranda qualified from Cambridge University in 2001. After six years in general practice she undertook an internship and then a residency in Small Animal Orthopaedics at Anderson Abercromby Veterinary Referrals. Miranda holds the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Diploma in Small Animal Orthopaedics. This is the highest qualification in orthopaedics that can be obtained by an orthopaedic surgeon in the UK and she is one of very few to have gained this prestigious qualification.
Miranda has a number of papers which have been published in surgery journals and is interested in research aimed at limiting surgical site infections. She is interested in all aspects of orthopaedics, particularly enjoying fracture repairs and lameness investigations.
Federico Piccinno
Veterinary Surgeon
DVM PgCertSAS MRCVSFederico qualified from the university of Bologna (Italy) in 2010. After graduating he gained a wealth of experience whilst undertaking several internships at multi-discipline hospitals. He has always dreamed of becoming a veterinary surgeon. In particular to be able to help and make a difference to the lives of animals, as well as being able to provide help, honesty and comfort to their owners. Federico also volunteered for the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations as a veterinary surgeon involved in the control of infectious diseases.
In 2018 he became an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery and In 2019 we welcomed him to the team at Anderson Abercromby Veterinary Referrals.
César Gomes
Veterinary Surgeon
DVM DECVS MRCVS RCVS Recognised and EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal SurgeryCésar qualified as a veterinary surgeon from ICBAS University, Porto (Portugal) in 2012.
He moved to the UK in 2013 where he completed a rotating internship at Cambridge University in 2014 and then an orthopaedic internship with us at Anderson Abercromby Referrals in 2016. César then went on to complete a three year residency at the University of Cambridge by the ECVS.
The time spent during his internship with Anderson Abercromby in 2016 whilst working with our renowned surgeons, Angus Anderson and Ralph Abercromby inspired César to one day return and to fulfil his dream of working in orthopaedic referral centre. The biggest achievement for César was becoming a Diplomat in small animal surgery by the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS).
César has contributed papers in various journals and also enjoys lecturing at events and scientific meetings. He enjoys the reward in helping patients return home, having repaired their orthopaedic ailments.
Lynsey Tindall
Senior Registered Veterinary Nurse
RVN DipAVN (Medical)Lynsey joined Anderson Abercromby in April 2022 and is our Lead Ward Nurse.
She has over 25 years experience as a Veterinary Nurse and gained her RCVS Advanced Veterinary Nursing Diploma (Medical) in 2008.
She has vast experience of all kinds of veterinary nursing, including first opinion and emergency and critical care.
Lynsey is passionate about pain management and likes to ensure we provide the best standard of care to our patients following surgery, as well as a whole heap of TLC!
Keely Kosla
Registered Veterinary Nurse
RVN NCert (Anaesth)Keely qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2013, and spent twelve years at a first opinion practice before joining us in 2021. She has since developed her interest in theatre and achieved a certificate in anaesthesia. In her spare time, she enjoys horse riding, personal training and looking after her dogs and Lady Daphne the tortoise.
Crystal Woodrow
Registered Veterinary Nurse
RVNCrystal spent a few years working in kennels and first opinion practices before achieving her veterinary nursing diploma and joining our team in 2016, and her favourite part of her role is helping with the rehabilitation process. When she’s not looking after her twin daughters, she enjoys taking part in steam rallies, going for long walks and playing darts.
Zoe Blake
Registered Veterinary Nurse
RVN ISFM CertFN/Adv CertFBZoe has worked in the veterinary industry for decades and joined our team in 2016. Our resident cat guru, she has qualifications in feline behaviour and runs her own pet care advice and cat behaviour consultation business. When she’s not working, she loves playing tennis and football, and exploring the countryside with her dog, Dylan.
Freya Hollis
Registered Veterinary Nurse
RVNFreya joined Anderson Abercromby in January 2023 after qualifying as a Vet Nurse in 2020. She likes to make sure that all animals in her care are made to feel comfortable and happy. Freya enjoys studying dog behaviour and analysing their body language. She would eventually like to do her certificate in Emergency and Critical Care and aspires to progress to a more senior role.
She has a passion for gardening and plants and spends her time hanging out with her 2 Dachshunds, cats and pet turtle Donatello.
Charlie Spearing
Registered Vet Nurse
RVNStarting as a Saturday girl at 14yrs, Charlie went on to qualify as a RVN 4yrs later in 2018.
Her passion to become a Veterinary Nurse was inspired by her first ever family dog needing a THR, which led her to have a keen interest in surgery and anaesthesia.
She is aiming to do her higher certificate in anaesthesia and once performed an anaesthetic on a pregnant snake!
Outside of work, Charlie looks after her pet gecko, cornsnake and enjoys walking on the Ashdown Forest with her pug Bella.
Rhiannon Horton
Registered Vet Nurse
RVNRhiannon has worked in the veterinary industry since 2014.
She joined Anderson Abercromby as part of our night care team in 2023.
She enjoys caring for the inpatients, making them comfortable and helping in aiding a speedy recovery.
Alongside nursing, Rhiannon is a Marine Mammal Medic assisting on call outs for marine life needing help along the coast.
She has a busy family life, loves to travel and has a great passion for whippets!
Nicola Kevern
Registered Vet Nurse
RVNNicola is one of our night nursing team who qualified back in 2012 and holds a diploma in feline nursing.
Since she can remember, her dream job was to work in the veterinary industry and she has worked at several busy practices.
She is very passionate about her inpatients, adapting to their individual needs and wants to expand her knowledge in pain management and patient care.
Any free time is spent with her young children, her tabby cat Burt and also doing embroidery, crochet and reading.
Victoria Kent
Veterinary Nursing Assistant
VNAVictoria joined Anderson Abercromby in October 2023 after completing her BSc (Hons) in Equine Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation.
She has always had a keen interest in working in the veterinary industry and has gained a lot of knowledge since joining the team.
Her favourite part of her job is assisting in theatre and observing surgical procedures.
Outside of work she enjoys horse riding and attending live music events.
Katie Russell
Veterinary Physiotherapist
MVetPhysKatie joined our team in 2022 and holds a Master’s degree in veterinary physiotherapy. She has a passion for the rehabilitation process and has a level three canine hydro qualification, which she would like to build upon in the future through completing further training. Outside of work, she can often be found riding her horse or milking cows at her local farm.
Sarah Booth
Practice Manager
RVN PgCert VBMSarah joined Anderson Abercromby in March 2022 as the Practice Manager.
Sarah has over 20 years’ experience in the Veterinary Sector. Starting as a RVN for 15 years before moving into leadership and project management in both the public sector and for a feline welfare charity.
In 2021 she graduated from the University of Liverpool with a post graduate certificate in Veterinary Business Management. She was shortlisted for Vet Partners Practice Manager of the year in 2022.
Maxine Field
Senior Receptionist
RVNMaxine qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 1996 and joined our team in 2007. She has completed a diploma in master herbalism, and has an extensive knowledge of pet insurance and a keen interest in canine behaviour. In her spare time, she enjoys taking her Welsh springer Wilson to the beach and practising dog agility.
Vanessa Mayes
Senior Receptionist
After attending agricultural college and achieving her certificate of higher education in business administration and equine studies, Vanessa gained valuable experience across various administration roles. She joined us in 2014 and loves building a rapport with our clients. Outside of work she loves looking after her own ponies, who she competes at county events.
Julie Dickinson
Receptionist
Julie worked in the brick industry for many years as a sales administrator. She then went self employed, working as a remote administrator for various clients locally. She joined Anderson Abercromby in 2023 as a part-time receptionist, a role that she finds very fulfilling.
Outside of work she likes to spend time with her family and friends.
She also has a beautiful Shetland Sheepdog called Woody who is spoilt rotten.
